Apna time aayega (Your time will come)

Image
I'm an ardent Bollywood fan, and the title of this post is the tagline from a soon-to-be released movie- Gully Boy (in case you may be interested). The Grammys was today (or was it yesterday due to time zone?) and my Twitter feed is nothing short of videos and speeches and praises and pictures and shades and so on. I've decided to use the Grammys as an inspiration for this post. I wasn't gonna post anything today because my brain is so short on ATP and I didn't know what to write, or develop on that which I've written. Anyways, here we are! I don't listen to American pop or rap, so I plead neutrality with this post, and also I'll be careful not to trespass, so the fans of the musicians/rappers I mention in this post won't find me and kill me lol. Digging right in! Even if Cardi B had been a gang member at 16, or a stripper at 19, she has today, made history as the first female solo rapper to win a Grammy for the Best Rap Album...because it ...

Is premarital sex wrong?

Image
Valentine is just around the corner, couples are being nicer to each other, the red and white outfits are being ordered, the flower shops are restocking, jewellery shops will have increased sales, and just about everyone will be happy because it is the month of Love. There is a crude generalization that children born in November are usually products of Valentine's night. This is as funny as it is witless! During a discussion of the silly statement above, I was asked, "is premarital sex okay"? While I lolled in a chair, I almost choked on my coffee. I wasn't prepared for such a question at seven a.m. Here you go. When I think about sex, morality, religion, and medicine are the parameters that come to mind. Sex is between two people, a man and a woman, or otherwise. But in the traditional society we live in where heterosexual relationships are given priority, the consequence(s) of sex (in this case premarital) is mostly borne by the woman partner. Now l...

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Image
It's been what, two or three months since my last upload, and goodness!!, I thought I'd explode from being saturated with so many thoughts. But I found a therapy in reading tweets. (You can find me on Twitter at the address written at the end of this post). These past months have been EVERYTHING and more! From uni stress to personal issues, to going back to heaven and resurrecting lol...ugh, it was IT. But I'm thankful to be here and strong and loving every bit of you that have not forgotten TheShyMedic. By the way, your girl is now a 4th-year medical student!!! I know it's not something to be too excited about because honestly, the reality gets closer to you as you advance in Med school. The reality that a human will be lying in front of you, and whose life lies in the decision you make. It's scary to think about, yet I want to indulge myself with the thoughts many times over. I'm just excited because it was a smooth sail into my fourth year despite the...

First 24 hours as a Berliner

Image
The Bradenburger Tor (Gate) Vacations are necessities, not luxury. My first contact with the outside world as a resident Nigerian was in 2015, when I landed in Sofia. I'd described the air as smelling of grass and water. It still smells like that (whenever I return from a trip). Whatever makes the atmosphere in "the abroad" smell differently is honestly the reason why we all want to exit our country at all costs. Technology is amazing! After living in Eastern Europe for few years, I eventually got the opportunity to see beyond the Europe that once wowed me. I'm on a vacation to Germany- the heart of technology, football, and beer! My insides when I got the visa😛 Someone told me to visit Japan before I'm entirely floored by technology. I told them that nothing beats what you've seen/feel yourself. So until I'm in Tokyo, Berlin has the best I've seen. As the plane was on its landing course at Frank Josef airport in Munich, my heart h...

The sweet sorrow of this century- Vol.1

Image
·  . Yet another article about the internet *face palms with a wink*. If you haven't checked my first post about the internet, what are you waiting for 😱 ? Be rest assured I got you covered, click  here to go. To become global with your business, art, talent, opinions, or even your personal life, the internet is the one and only channel. The universe is as good as it is bad, all you need is to brace yourself for whichever side is dished to you. From picture sharing to video sharing platforms to microblogging sites, to news sites, to online business, the internet is a mega dose of the major parts of our lives. Back in secondary school when there were argumentative essays about the good or bad of the internet, I'd always opted for the former because everyone said it was a good place. Recently I beg to differ from my old view as I consider neutrality as the gold- the internet has marred as well as made. This is an unseen picture of the mouths of...

To You, My Friend

Image
The first time I was poignant while writing, as much as my memory serves me, was when I wrote a letter to my childhood friend that left the country; the second time...is while I write this. Want to know why? Then let's go through the next few paragraphs together! There's at least one person that goes by the title of our friend, be it mutual or not, be it admitted or not, we're either someone's friend or they, ours. I've been privileged to live for some two decades, and in these years of living I have realised that friendships have now become associations rather than a mutual affection. I might sound a bit too traditional or like some would say, not 21st century-minded, but the fact that this relationship which is the realest in this small world is getting reduced to all sorts of mediocrity is despicable. This post is far from being a preacher, but I just think it necessary to let you be aware that there are still people in an organic friendship, and not the...

Chronicles of my Facebook inbox

Image
Imagine a world without Facebook in it...*shuts eye and shakes head vigorously as I cannot imagine* In 2012 when I accepted the Terms and Conditions without reading a single line of it, my joy knew no bounds- I could use the internet beyond Google search and I could go to the internet cafe regularly for school "assignments". I sent friend requests, accepted random requests, poked friends, stalked my crush, liked pages, mentioned that I watched Hannah Montana in my bio which I never watched except that I heard the rich kids of my class talked about it, I mentioned that I played basketball which I would later try for the first time in my second year in uni * laughs at myself hysterically* , I mentioned all the books and "classy" movies I read and watched at the time of signup, and I wrote all the quotes from my old diary to describe who I was. That was my painstaking pre-pubertal launch into the world of social media! Few years later, there would be a debate...
